Film Biriyani Movie Review:
Venkat Prabhu is back after the biggest hit of his career Mankatha which has created a big expectation for this movie. The other USP is of course the hero Karthi who has given hatric hits in a row and now after some failures in his film career is betting big time on Biriyani . Otherwise as usual the mandatory players in any Venkat Prabhu's films are his bro Premji and music director Yuvan. Now let's see whether Karthi has chosen the right script and director to give him the most needed break.
The story starts with Karthi and Premji as childhood friends where Karthi does all the mischief and as usual the hero's friend permji is on the receiving end. Then just after the intro, heroine and the so called villain gang gets introduced but the story moves at a very slow pace with no big entertaining feature which starts testing the audience's patience. The film actually kicks starts after the main sequence of Ambur Biryani shop entrance and a series of unexpected incidents which leads us to the interval.
The second half starts in the right mood and maintains the expectations with some good twist and expected end where the hero and his friend escapes from all the danger. But the sequences are quite gripping with good laugh out loud jokes. Just when we think that the climax is done, the director surprises us with a complete twist to the story which makes the audience taken by a storm and say a well done.
Music is by Yuvan and this is his 100th film which already created some hype and the songs were reasonable good to hear. But the making of the songs is not very impressive as too much of CG effects spoils the show. BGMs are good and loud in the nail biting sequences which is the style that Venkat follows in his movies. On the whole it's an average show as far as music is concerned.
Venkat Prabhu's technical team never changes from his first movie and so is the making style of his films. Camera man Sakthi Saravanan has done a decent job but editors Praveen & Srikanth could have been better in the editing part of the first 40 mins of the film which would have given us a better crisp version of Biriyani.
Karthi in this movie is portrayed as a playboy and Premji as his friend makes up good duo. Ramki who already made a recent comeback in the film industry has done his role neatly and Nasser as usual steals the show in a cameo role. Hansika doesn't make any big impression as she has a very limited role to play.
The audience for a Venkat Prabhu's film knows that he is a kind of director who will keep them entertained with the flavor of comedy, stylish film making, glamour etc., This is another typical Venkat Prabhu's film where Premji plays the main role that starts like a comedy subject but slowly pick up the pace. The storytelling style has many similarities to his previous film Mankatha as the complete movie until the end travels with a predictable story but ends with an incredible twist. Comedy sequences between Premji and Karthi has worked out big time which is the major plus for this film. This Biriyani which tastes spicy with lots of masala ingredients will turn out to be a good diet for this weekend.
